Ballistic Testing

As the pressure to make lighter, better fitting, longer lasting protective materials increases, Wiltshire Ballistic Services provide an efficient and confidential service to help customers develop their products by testing new materials
and compositions.

Ballistic Testing

Wiltshire Ballistic Services can conduct ballistic testing on all bullet-resistant materials including armour plate, shields, body armour, glass, bomb disposal suits, bank counters, doors, vehicle components and much more using up to 14.5mm ammunition and 20mm fragment simulating projectiles.

Testing at Wiltshire Ballistic Services is cost-effective and very flexible in that the customers are welcome to witness the trials or simply send in samples for testing.

We also hand reload most of our ammunition using new cases, primers and powder to ensure consistency and accuracy. We can quickly find the required loads for any given velocity by keeping records from previous trials. We have a wide range of ammunition in stock but if we do not have the particular ammunition the customer needs we will source it specifically for that trial.

If very large assemblies are required to be tested, explosive testing is required, or the testing can only be carried out using 20mm calibres or over, we can organise the testing at an outdoor facility.

Ammunition Testing

Wiltshire Ballistic Services use a universal receiver for all our ammunition trials up to 14.5mm which has been specifically designed for accuracy and consistency. WBS can test all aspects of the ammunition including the accuracy, reliability, velocity, and internal pressure within the barrel before and during firing.

The penetration characteristics can be determined by firing the ammunition into 10% ordnance gelatine blocks, and we have the facility to film the results on our high-speed video at speeds of up to 120,000 frames per second.

Weapons Testing

Wiltshire Ballistic Services have multiple ranges to test weapons on. Specially designed clamps can reduce variable results and enable the trained staff to get the highest accuracy results.

Both the dispersion and velocity can be measured and the results recorded and saved for later analysis.
